Releasing the Power of Git

Everything You Need to Know for GitKon 2025

GitKon 2025 is almost here, and we’re building something different this year. No hype. No vendor pitches. Just two days of real code, actionable workflows, and practical patterns you can use on Monday.

If you’re tired of conferences that treat developers like an audience instead of builders, GitKon 2025 is for you.

The Details at a Glance

When: December 10-11, 2025
Start Time: 9:00 AM PT each day
Format: Virtual (attend from anywhere)
Cost: Free
Who Should Attend: Developers, engineering leaders, and anyone who cares about their craft

Why The Builders Era?

This year’s theme, The Builders Era, celebrates the makers, maintainers, mentors, and leaders redefining what it means to ship responsibly in the age of AI.

Automation didn’t eliminate the need to understand your codebase. If anything, 2025 proved the opposite: the more complexity we add to our stack, the more we need solid fundamentals. Clean pull requests. Fast code reviews. Reliable releases. Tight feedback loops. These aren’t exciting, but they’re what separate teams that ship from teams that struggle.

The Builders Era is about mastering the basics while experimenting with what’s next. It’s using AI as a copilot, not a replacement. It’s understanding Git well enough that you don’t panic when a rebase goes sideways. It’s caring about your team’s workflow as much as your own code.

Two Days, Two Audiences

GitKon 2025 is structured to serve two distinct audiences across two full days:

Day 1: Built for Developers (December 10)

Day 1 is for individual contributors who want to sharpen their craft, explore new tools, and learn how to work smarter with AI and automation.

What to expect:

  • Deep dives into Git workflows, code reviews, and AI-assisted development
  • Hands-on clinics on faster PRs, cleaner diffs, and saner merge conflict resolution
  • Career pathing guidance for developers navigating IC vs. management tracks
  • Sessions on GitKraken workflows, visual Git tools, and command-line mastery
  • Technical demos from the creators shaping modern workflows

Day 2: Built for Engineering Leaders (December 11)

Day 2 is designed for engineering managers, VPs, and tech leads who need frameworks for scaling culture, measuring DevEx, and leading teams through transformation.

What to expect:

  • Frameworks to truly quantify AI impact on velocity, quality, and developer experience
  • Scorecards, rollout playbooks, governance frameworks, and ROI models
  • Measurement strategies and benchmarking playbooks to understand what’s working
  • Leadership insights on enabling teams without slowing them down
  • Data-driven approaches to proving DevEx value to executives

The Speaker Lineup

We’ve assembled some of the sharpest minds in dev tooling, product leadership, engineering excellence, and AI adoption.

Day 1 Keynote

Chris Geoghegan (VP of Product at Zapier)
“Context Engineering as a Team Sport: How Shared AI Context Eliminates Handoffs”

The biggest productivity gains from AI don’t come from individual developers using AI. They come when entire teams share context and eliminate handoffs. Chris will share how Zapier’s engineering, product, and design teams use AI to blur traditional role boundaries, make faster decisions, and ship features informed by customer data patterns.

Day 2 Keynotes

Nathen Harvey (DORA Lead at Google Cloud)
“AI’s Impact on Software Development: Insights from the DORA AI Capabilities Model”

Nathen leads DORA research at Google, which means he spends his time figuring out what separates high-performing engineering teams from everyone else. He’ll unveil findings from the 2025 DORA report on AI’s impact, tackle the misconception that “throwing AI at everything speeds up your team,” and share evidence-based approaches to measuring AI’s impact on team performance.

Tracy Lee (CEO and Founder of This Dot Labs)
“The Next Era of Enablement: From Open Source to AI”

How does developer enablement evolve when the platforms themselves are changing faster than your rollout plans? Tracy will explore frameworks for keeping teams productive during platform shifts, balancing innovation with stability, and proving DevEx ROI to executives who need numbers, not vibes.

Featured Speakers

Matt Johnston (CEO of GitKraken)
Delivering opening remarks both days

Eric Amodio (CTO at GitKraken, Creator of GitLens)
“The Next Frontier: Bringing Git Intelligence to AI Agents & IDEs with GitKraken MCP”

Justin Roberts (Sr. Director of Product at GitKraken)
“Embedding AI into GitKraken Desktop and GitLens”

Plus sessions from: Chris Kelly (Augment), Kevin Bost (IntelliTect), Audrey Long (Microsoft), and more.

Can’t-Miss Sessions

With 20+ sessions across two days, here are the highlights you won’t want to skip:

For Developers

“Beyond the Commit: GitKraken Workflows That Change How You Ship”
AI-assisted commits, expert conflict resolution, and workflows serious builders use. No theory. Just practical Git mastery for real-world projects.

“Wait… Git Can Do That?”
Underrated Git commands that save time, reduce pain, and make you look way smarter in a pinch.

“Your Boss is Measuring You, Now What?” (Panel Discussion)
Engineers are caught in the new metrics crossfire. This panel tackles which metrics drive real improvement vs. which ones drive gaming, how to manage up without selling your soul, and what to do when you’re measured by systems that don’t understand engineering.

For Leaders

“Building a Culture of Responsible AI Use”
How engineering leaders can help their teams build rituals that encourage discernment over dependency and guide engineers to ship smarter instead of just faster.

“Vibes Won’t Cut It: Agentic Engineering in Production”
What better way to learn how to get the most out of a coding agent than by dissecting how they work under the hood?

“GitKraken 2025 Wrapped: For Leaders”
Your year-in-review for GitKraken’s leadership-focused features, including Automations, AI security controls, Insights, and what’s coming next.

Exclusive Giveaways for Attendees

We’re giving away epic prizes for attendees on both days of GitKon. All registered attendees are automatically entered to win exclusive GitKraken swag and prizes just for showing up.

Why GitKon is Different

Most developer conferences are one of two things: vendor showcases disguised as education, or aspirational talks about tools you’ll never use. GitKon is neither.

GitKon is:

  • Hands-on clinics on the stuff that burns your day
  • Real code, working demos, and patterns you can deploy Monday
  • Focused on workflow latency, review bottlenecks, and CI headaches using tools you already use (VS Code, Cursor, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps)
  • Transparent about where AI helps and where it doesn’t
  • Built for developers who care about their craft

GitKon is not:

  • An AI pep rally
  • A product pitch disguised as a conference
  • Theory without application
  • Hype without substance

What You’ll Leave With

Day 1 attendees will walk away with:

  • Practical Git workflows you can implement immediately
  • AI integration patterns that actually reduce friction
  • Career guidance from developers who’ve been there
  • Working examples of conflict resolution, PR optimization, and workflow automation

Day 2 attendees will walk away with:

  • Frameworks to measure and prove AI’s impact on team performance
  • Scorecards and playbooks to scale what works
  • Leadership strategies for enabling teams without slowing them down
  • Data-driven approaches to improving developer experience

All attendees get:

  • Full access to recorded sessions (watch on-demand after the event)
  • Entry into exclusive giveaways
  • Connection with a community of 10,000+ builders who care about craft over hype
