Frequently Asked Questions

Contest Participation

Can I compete in both categories?
Absolutely! Create content AND share referrals. You could win both championships if you have the highest engagement and most referrals.

I’m already a GitKraken Ambassador. Can I participate?
Yes! This contest is in addition to your Ambassador program benefits. We encourage our Ambassadors to compete.

Can I compete if I just became a paid subscriber?
Yes! As long as you’re a paid subscriber by March 31, you’re eligible. Welcome to the community.

What if I created content before March 2?
Only new content created between March 2-31, 2025 counts. However, you can absolutely repurpose old ideas into fresh content for the contest.

Content & Referral Links

Why can’t I use referral links on Reddit or review sites?
These platforms have strict community guidelines against promotional content. Referral links could:

  • Get your post removed or account banned
  • Violate community trust
  • Disqualify you from the contest

Instead: Mention GitKraken naturally when it’s genuinely helpful (Reddit) or keep reviews authentic (G2/Capterra/TrustRadius).

Do Reddit comments count as content pieces?
Yes! Substantive comments that help other developers count just as much as posts. Quality over quantity. One detailed, helpful comment can earn more engagement than several short ones.

What if my Reddit post gets removed?
Removed content doesn’t count toward your score. This is why we emphasize following subreddit rules and leading with genuine value.

Can I edit my content after submitting it?
Yes, but engagement is measured based on the final version. Make sure your content is polished before submitting.

What if someone copies my content?
Report it to us immediately. We take plagiarism seriously and will disqualify copycats.

Measuring & Winning

How exactly do you measure engagement for Content Champion?
We track:

  • Likes, reactions, upvotes, favorites
  • Comments, replies, quote tweets (quality of discussion matters)
  • Shares, retweets, saves, bookmarks
  • Views (on platforms that provide this metric)
  • Discussion quality you sparked

One piece with 100 engaged comments beats 10 pieces with 10 likes each.

How do I track my Team Builder referrals?
Your referral dashboard at GitKraken.dev shows all conversions in real-time. We pull Team Builder rankings directly from there.

Do free trial sign-ups count, or only paid conversions?
Only paid conversions count toward the Team Builder championship. Free trials don’t qualify.

Can I see the current leaderboard anytime?
Weekly leaderboards are sent via email. We don’t publish real-time public rankings to avoid gaming the system.

Prizes & Recognition

What’s the Keif jersey design?
It’s an exclusive March Madness design that won’t be sold publicly. Winners only. Designed by our creative team specifically for this contest.

When do I receive my prizes?
Physical prizes (jerseys) ship within 2-3 weeks of winner announcement. Gift cards arrive via email within 1 week.

What if I don’t win? Do I still get anything?
Yes! You’ll still earn $20 per paid referral (no limit). Plus, you helped fellow developers discover better Git workflows. That’s a win in itself.

Technical Questions

Can I create content in languages other than English?
Yes! Content in any language counts, as long as it’s on the approved platforms and follows their guidelines.

What if I have multiple GitKraken accounts?
Use the account associated with your paid subscription.

Can I delete and resubmit content if I want to improve it?
Yes, but we measure engagement on the final version. Deleting high-performing content resets your engagement count.
